Maxim Integrated Products MAX9768: Class D amplifier allows analog/digital volume control

Claiming 87% efficiency, the 10W, mono MAX9768 single-supply Class D speaker amplifier includes analog/digital volume control. The device minimizes EMI-radiated emissions by using a filterless, spread-spectrum modulation technique. The amplifier delivers 10W of output power in an 8Ω speaker with a 14V speaker, 77-dB PSRR (power-supply-rejection ratio), 0.08% THD1N, and a 97-dB SNR (signal-to-noise ratio). Suiting battery-operated equipment, TVs, personal computers, GPS (global-positioning systems), and personal/security radios, the device enables analog or digital control of a 64-step volume-control circuit. Additional features include a 4.5 to 14V supply-voltage range, low-power shutdown mode, a –40 to +85°C temperature range, click-and-pop suppression, an on-board I2C-compatible interface, and short-circuit and thermal-overload protection. Available in a 4×4-mm, TQFN-28 package, the MAX9768 Class D amplifier costs $1.20 (1000).
